Job Summary: The Associate Director of Youth Programs, under the supervision of the Youth Programs Director, is responsible for new group leader onboarding and training, coaching group leaders, planning and implementing in-service training, and supporting the program by coordinating student and family support. This position will assist group leaders in designing an engaging and developmentally appropriate learning experience for the children in their care.
The Associate Director of Youth Programs shares their time between aforementioned support functions and hands‑on experience in the classroom. The Assoc. Dir. Of Youth Programs supports the mission of the JCC by developing programs that celebrate Jewish culture, strengthen Jewish identity, and build inclusive community.
- Schedule group leader shifts
- Schedule staff trainings
- Plan, schedule, and purchase snacks
- Serve as parent/caregiver contact
- Write and send parent/caregiver newsletters
- Organize meetings with parents when necessary
- Plan and implement Mazon & Mishpocha (Food & Family Nights)
- Liaise with the Youth Programs Advisory Committee
- Address parent questions re: enrollment, program logistics, etc.
- Provide daily pick‑up location updates
- Mentor/coach group leaders in the areas of…
- Classroom management
- Handling a variety of child behaviors
- Curriculum design and implementation
- Youth programs best practices
- SACERS standards
- Directly engage as group leader during program hours
- Lead after group/clubs
- Run specialty programs at camp
- Run after school transportation/walk from Claxton to the JCC
- Count in ratio for group coverage as program needs arise
- Assist with compliance requirements
- Print and post weekly licensing documents (attendance/face counts, snack menu, rotations, curriculum, etc.)
- File licensing documents
- Check parent sign‑outs daily
- Check transition sheets dailylint>
- Review incident reports/ behavior reports
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Organizational skills
- Ability to relate positively and constructively to children, parents, and staff
- Knowledge of (or interest and willingness to learn) Jewish culture, values, and traditions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Experience with NC DHHS DCDEE licensing and sanitation
- Demonstrated ability to work well with others and independently
- Ability to maintain focus, while following through to successfully execute projects from start to finish
- Minimum four years’ experience in licensed childcare
Certifications:
- NC Qualifying Letter (criminal background check)
- North Carolina Early Childhood Administration Credential Level I, or ability to obtain it within one year of hire
- Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification (within 90 days of employment)
Additional:
- Must pass a drug screening
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to keep up with children walking throughout the day
- Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs
- Must be able to walk up stairs/hillside
- Must be able to swim with children (note that the JCC provides free swim lessons to employees needing to learn)
