Job Description Summary
The Adult High School Instructor facilitates students' progress towards the completion of high school credits and graduation in partnership with our local educational agencies and Goodwill Industries of Northwest NC. This program runs year-round. Adjunct faculty are typically contracted on a term to term basis, although the schedule is generally consistent.
Duties
1. Create accounts for students in Apex software, assign classes, and provide feedback to students on their assignments.
2. Maintain frequent communications with students, administrators, and other staff.
3. Maintain student records related to the course.
4. Collaborate with Goodwill's Career Navigator, Next Gen, and STEP programs to support overall needs of students related to enrollment, persistence, and completion.
5. Participate in departmental, college, and state professional development opportunities as they arise.
Minimum Requirements
1. Bachelor's degree
2. Experience teaching teenagers and/or adults
3. Must either hold a NCCCS-recognized credential at time of hire, or earn one within 2 years of date of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Lived experience as a student or parent of a student in alternative education programs, such as GED, Adult High School, credit recovery, alternative high schools, etc.
2. Degree in education, social work, or counseling
3. Experience and/or training for implementing systemic or classroom-level changes to improve equitable outcomes for all students
4. Experience and/or training with research-based methods for teaching math and reading
5. Experience and/or training for working with students with disabilities
6.
Experience with Basic Skills / College and Career Readiness programs in the community college setting
