Position SummaryNorth Carolina Outward Bound School (NCOBS) is seeking passionate, mission‑driven Program Facilitators to join our as‑needed pool and support 1–10 program days per year
. These facilitators deliver single‑day experiential education programs across the Southeast-primarily in Charlotte, Asheville, and Atlanta
-that inspire belonging, courage, reflection, and physical engagement for youth and adult groups.
In this role, you'll lead front‑country activities such as hiking, ground initiatives, and team‑building in regional parks; create safe, inclusive learning environments; and support NCOBS's ongoing work to expand access, belonging, and community. Facilitators participate in course planning, sequence appropriate activities for diverse groups, and manage real‑time group dynamics with confidence and care.
Ideal candidates bring experience facilitating youth or adult programs, strong communication skills, commitment to equity, and the ability to manage safety and group needs effectively. Experience in experiential education, nonprofit youth work, or team‑building is highly valued. Basic First Aid & CPR are required; WFA or WFR preferred.
This position pays $165/day
, includes travel reimbursement, and offers access to pro deals, an EAP, and 403(b). Occasional regional travel and training participation are required.

Essential Functions- Facilitate various single-day, urban and front country, experiential education programs designed to create belonging, courage, reflection, and physical engagement for student and adult populations, including hiking and ground initiatives in regional parks.
- Participate in course planning, including the development and implementation of curricula and course logistics.
- Structure a safe, inclusive and fun learning environment while continuously monitoring risk and adjusting program components accordingly.
- Sequence activities that are appropriate for the group based on the assessment of group skills.
- Support organizational access, belonging, and community efforts across NCOBS and within all community programs.
- A strong commitment to educational equity.
- Experience facilitating youth or adult programming in a variety of outdoor and indoor settings; experience with nonprofits serving youth is strongly desired.
- Proven communicator in oral and written platforms. Ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or challenging situations. Comfortable presenting to large groups.
- Strong safety management experience.
- Able to manage multiple priorities in real‑time while managing and resolving individual and group behavioral needs with a variety of tools.
- Experience with diversity, equity, and inclusion work and a proven commitment to continuing to make experiential education available to all communities.
- Proficient in Office
365 (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and video conferencing. - Relates well to others and works efficiently with a variety of people.
- Working knowledge of initiatives and teambuilding.
- Desire to improve facilitation skills, give and receive feedback, and actively carry out support duties.
- Must be located in the Southeast.
- 15% regional travel, including to base camps in the Asheville, NC area. Travel may include overnight stays ranging from 1-5 days.
- Employees are responsible for their own transportation to and from program locations. Time and mileage are paid by North Carolina Outward Bound School.
