Overview
This position performs responsible technical work in the public library through essential functions such as operating the circulation desk; checking books in and out of the library; supervising a branch library; collecting fees and fines; assisting library patrons; entering data on computer; does related work as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Library Supervisor. May occasionally be scheduled to work at various locations including:
Carthage, Aberdeen, Pinebluff, Robbins, Vass, and Bookmobile.
- General knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and equipment
- Some knowledge of computers
- General knowledge of library routine and procedures
- Ability to follow established procedures and to perform work requiring considerable detail
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and library patrons
- High School Diploma or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution and six (6) months of clerical or other related experience
- Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20-35 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, fingering, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels;
visual acuity is required for visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
