Position:
Family Consumer Science – Foods and Nutrition Teacher (Licensure Areas 710 or 716). Full‑time – 10 months. School year start:
August 13, 2026.

Job Summary

The Family and Consumer Science (FACS) Foods and Nutrition Teacher develops lesson plans and instructs students on family and consumer science content. The role includes providing a progression of learning anchored in content standards and career opportunities, delivering instruction, creating field experiences, inviting guest speakers, forming industry partnerships, and collaborating across the school to address instructional and classroom issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver engaging, standards‑based FACS instruction aligned with NC Standard Course of Study and Career Clusters Framework.
  • Provide instruction in one or more FACS pathways, such as Foods and Nutrition (primary), Child Development and Interior Design (as needed).
  • Integrate real‑world applications, project‑based learning, and 21st‑century skills into the curriculum.
  • Prepare students for CTE participation (e.g., FCCLA) and encourage leadership and competition opportunities.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and organized classroom and lab environment that supports hands‑on learning.
  • Use instructional strategies, assessment tools, and technologies to meet diverse needs and monitor progress.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, families, community partners, and CTE advisory boards to enhance student learning and career readiness.
  • Maintain accurate, up‑to‑date records of student achievement, attendance, and required documentation.
  • Participate in professional development, CTE department meetings, and school improvement initiatives.
  • Follow federal, state, and district policies, including CTE reporting and compliance.
  • Supervise students in classroom and laboratory settings, ensuring safety.
  • Manage inventory for classroom and school property.
  • Advise CTE Director and school administration of needed repairs or unsafe conditions.
  • Communicate with parents through conferences and other means regarding student progress.
  • Recruit employers, stakeholders, mentors, and teachers through meetings, conferences, and presentations.
  • Participate in required meetings with local business partners.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned by CTE Director and perform non‑instructional duties as needed.
  • Follow a professional development plan and demonstrate evidence of growth.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina teaching license with an endorsement in Family and Consumer Science (FACS) 710 or 716.
  • Completed a state‑approved teacher preparation program in Family and Consumer Science.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and passing Praxis exam Family and Consumer Science 5122.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred.
Physical and Cognitive Requirements

Must be physically able to sit, stand, walk and drive a car. Able to lift boxes up to 10 pounds. Light work physical demands.

Data conception, interpersonal communication, language ability, intelligence, verbal and numerical aptitude, form/spatial aptitude, motor coordination, manual dexterity, color discrimination, interpersonal temperament required skills.
