UPPER SCHOOL STEM TEACHER

For the 2026-27 school year, we are seeking an experienced, dynamic STEM teacher for our Upper School division of approximately 190 students and 25 faculty members. We are proud of our collaborative Upper School faculty and seek a candidate who is passionate about STEM education, skilled in engaging students in inquiry-based and project-based learning, and committed to supporting students with a wide range of learning styles and profiles.

A successful candidate will be excited to teach Upper School STEM courses that may include physics, robotics, computer science, or mathematics offerings. They will bring strong content knowledge, creativity, and a collaborative spirit, and will be eager to work within a small, collegial department and broader Upper School team.

The position typically includes a teaching load of five STEM classes with multiple preparations. Other responsibilities include advising 8-10 students, being available to meet with students outside of class, supervising students at selected school events, and serving on school committees. There may also be opportunities to coach a team, sponsor a club, support Maker Space programming, or travel with students.

Our ideal candidate will be able to do the following as they carry out the duties of this position:

Instructional approach:
  • Design and deliver engaging, student-centered STEM instruction grounded in inquiry, problem-solving, and the engineering design process
  • Utilize project-based learning to help students apply STEM concepts to real-world challenges
  • Understand a wide range of learning styles and profiles and tailor instruction to meet the needs of all students, including through differentiated instruction
  • Foster creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration in the classroom and laboratory settings
  • Create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages curiosity, persistence, and intellectual risk-taking
Engagement with our community:
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with all community members, including students, parents, colleagues (both faculty and staff), and administrators
  • Work collaboratively within the Upper School STEM department and with colleagues across disciplines
  • Be flexible and willing to adapt to our school's unique culture and evolving program needs
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, including learning that supports best practices in STEM education and the needs of our student population
  • Participate in faculty meetings and team meetings to discuss student progress and program development
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrate a passion for STEM education and for sharing that passion with students
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to working with young people and fostering their academic and personal growth
  • Believe in the capacity of all students to succeed in STEM disciplines and demonstrate an inclusive, student-centered approach to instruction
  • Have prior experience teaching Upper School students, preferably within an independent school setting
  • Hold a bachelor's degree in a STEM-related field, STEM education, or a related discipline (required)
  • Hold a master's degree in the subject area and/or education and possess three or more years of relevant teaching experience (preferred)
  • Have experience with collaborative teaching environments, project-based learning, and working with students with diverse learning needs
