Pay: Between $16.50 - $23.50 based on experience and qualifications

Summary

The Early Learning Program Teacher creates a safe, engaging, and educational environment for children in Early Childhood Education or NC Pre‑K settings. This position develops individualized learning goals, monitors student progress, and ensures a seamless transition into pre‑school or kindergarten. Additionally, it fosters family involvement, maintains communication with families, and integrates services provided by other professionals to support holistic child development.

Duties

and Responsibilities Classroom Management and Teaching
  • Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and activities in collaboration with the Co‑Teacher.
  • Promote language, cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development through creative and structured activities.
  • Model non‑violent communication and respectful behavior, aligning with the YWCA's mission and values.
Family Engagement
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding children’s daily activities, progress, and concerns.
  • Conduct parent/teacher conferences and home visits (if required) to share information and strategies for supporting children’s growth.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork
  • Partner with the Co‑Teacher to manage classroom operations, including scheduling and lesson planning.
  • Work with volunteers in the classroom, ensuring compliance with regulations and enhancing their experience.
  • Coordinate with other service providers to integrate health, nutrition, family, and special education services into the program.
Administrative and Maintenance Tasks
  • Maintain accurate records, including assessments, screening results, and documentation required for transition to public school.
  • Ensure classroom cleanliness and organization, including daily sanitation of surfaces, toys, and facilities.
Professional Development
  • Stay informed on best practices in early childhood education and participate in assigned training sessions.
  • Actively contribute to YWCA initiatives, including promoting healthy lifestyles and childhood obesity prevention.

Skills and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of child development and early childhood education best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with children, families, and staff.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and adapt to diverse needs and circumstances.
  • Proficient in maintaining a safe and organized learning environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • EDU
    119 plus 6 semester hours in early childhood coursework (or willingness to obtain).
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Infant/Toddler Certificate or Preschool Certificate preferred.
  • At least 6 months of relevant experience or educational equivalency.
  • CRC Background Check clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field.
Working Conditions
  • Direct interaction with children, with exposure to childhood illnesses.
  • Supervision and participation in outdoor activities year‑round.
  • Evening or weekend work may occasionally be required.
  • Physical Requirements
  • Frequent standing, bending, and engaging in physical activities with children under six years of age.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds.
Travel Required

Minimal travel may be required for field trips or professional development sessions.
