This position reports to the Coordinator of the TC for the management and operation of the TC labs, providing an open, efficient and professional lab environment for students enrolled at A-B Tech. The primary focus of this position is the provision of quality tutoring and assistance to A-B Tech students. The Science Tutoring Lab in the Tutoring Center provides tutoring and individual assistance to A-B Tech students within the Education department.
Assistants assist students with acquiring the skills necessary to succeed in their coursework. Assistants work directly with the students in a fast-paced, busy lab. Assistants provide tutoring to students of various abilities and backgrounds. Assistants supervise tutoring lab Aides and Peer Tutors. Assistants implement and enforce TC and A-B Tech policies, procedures and guidelines while providing professional, helpful, and reliable assistance to students.
- Provide professional tutorial services in Education courses.
- Supervise lab aides and peer tutors as needed.
- Supervise lab activities.
- Assist instructors and department chairs as requested.
- Communicate effectively with students, instructors, and staff to troubleshoot and solve problems related to the lab environment. Provide customer service.
- Occasional data entry, record keeping, and general office duties.
- Provide a positive environment for student learning.
- Implement and enforce A-B Tech regulations, including the prevention of unauthorized persons from using lab facilities and equipment.
- Other duties as assigned by the TC Coordinator.
- Must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) with significant coursework in Education or Early Childhood.
- Excellent human relations skills.
- Patience and the ability to multi-task.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Willingness to continue learning to keep up with the latest innovations and/or technologies.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to use a graphing calculator.
- Work experience in an educational lab environment.
- Must have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience teaching or tutoring in a higher education setting.
- Familiarity with AB Tech’s campus and curriculum.
Salary Range Pay Rate: $23.75
