Position Summary
Implements plans/activities, prepares daily/weekly schedule, individual/group activities for children, lesson plans, designs room arrangements and learning centers. Implements and reinforces behavior management strategies. Prepares materials and learning areas, participates with children and supervises children. Helps direct activities of teacher assistants and volunteers.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Plans daily activities according to developmentally appropriate curriculum.
- Maintains visual supervision of children at all times.
- Organize classroom structure and implement appropriate actions as needed.
- Maintain accurate paperwork and documentation.
- Communicates with parents/caregivers on a daily basis.
- Implements daily lesson plans/activity plans on a daily basis.
- Implement IFSP's/IEP’s.
- Assists children in daily plans, schedules.
- Models appropriate behaviors for children.
- Organize and maintain student portfolios, utilizing Kaymbu on a daily basis.
- Implements progress reports and parent/teacher conferences.
- Develop and maintain a working knowledge of North Carolina Division of Child Development Childcare Rules and Regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness of classroom.
- Maintain cleanliness of children.
- Supervises teacher assistants.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Non-EssentialDuties & Responsibilities
- Must work with both special needs children and typically developing children on a daily basis.
- Must be able to potty train or change diapers as needed on a daily basis.
- Two year associate degree in Early Childhood Education or 4 year Human Services Degree plus 1 year preschool experience. Must be able to obtain Infant Toddler Associate or Specialist Certification.
- Must be 18 years of age or older and possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License.
- Ability to plan curriculum based on knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to record basic data and document observations, events and medications.
- Ability to communicate with other staff, parents and caregivers and members of the community.
- Must be able to interact daily with Parents/Guardians, IWC/IWRC staff, LEA representatives, etc.
- Mental Effort:
Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions. Have the ability to function independently.
- Must maintain visual supervision of children at all times. Able to monitor clients from short and long distances.
- Heavy lifting up to 40 pounds independently.
- Behavior problems such as aggression of students and/or lifting could cause bodily injury.
- Employees work indoors and outdoors with young children with some exposure to conditions which are slightly disagreeable such as toileting and feeding.
- Number of employees supervises: 2 or more.
