Job Description & How to Apply Below

SOLA is seeking a grades class teacher for the 2026/27 year. The ideal candidate will have completed or be engaged in Waldorf/Spiritual-Scientific teacher training or have a 'life experience equivalency'; will have at least 2 years of previous teaching experience in a holistic, nature centered learning environment; will have a deep love and reverence for the natural world, animals, plants, and a working knowledge of Rudolf Steiner's imagination of child development within the context of a living cosmos.

The ideal candidate will feel inspired about utilizing the learning benefits that are readily available within a vibrant nature preserve and biodynamic farm, and be willing and able to integrate and enrich the Waldorf academic curriculum through lived experiences in this environment. The ideal candidate will possess a willingness to responsibly enliven the traditional Waldorf Curriculum with the truth, beauty, and goodness of a nature oriented approach to forest, farm, and folkways.

SOLA honors the sanctity of childhood and Steiner's indications around the co-evolutory processes of the human being and a Living Cosmos. Our hope is to identify a candidate who is committed to carrying the class through 6th grade.

Sanctuary of Living Arts, or SOLA, is a learning environment located on a 200 acre nature preserve in the Western North Carolina mountains, just west of the bustling, culturally vibrant town of Asheville. Surrounded by beautiful Pisgah National Forest, our campus is a nature preserve that includes acres of biodynamically tended orchards, fields, gardens, forests and animals. Our classroom structures and areas of activity function together much like an ‘learning ecology’, supporting meaningful study, presence and practices with Living Earth that are essential to the lives and wellbeing of our own and the greater community.

We view the Living Arts as enlivened pathways for learning that place emphasis on ‘learning relationships’ and the diverse ways that human beings enter into these relationships - through cognitive, embodied, intuitive, imaginal and relational pathways. SOLA’s curriculum is inspired by the developmental and pedagogical indications of Rudolf Steiner and fundamentally by the spiritual and physical ecologies that comprise a divinely designed, Living Cosmos.

Our reverence for the sanctity of childhood and recognition of the sacredness of each child’s relationships with self, others and the world around them are expressed through our daily rhythm of activities - our Living Curriculum.

Benefits
  • a 4 day work week
  • time for rest, enrichment, enlivenment; a 4 week winter break, breaks in Autumn & Spring
  • a sociocratic, relational culture of leadership
  • potential for discounted and on-site housing, temporary or permanent
