Position Overview
Professional Land Surveyor to join the Geomatics Surveying Team. Open to locations:
Charlotte, NC
, Mooresville, NC
, Asheville, NC
, and Greenville, SC
. Full‑time role overseeing survey projects, directing field and office staff, coordinating with internal engineering teams and external clients. Guidance provided by senior management.
- Oversee production of survey plans and other deliverables, schedule and set up field crews, update project tracking software, perform QA/QC reviews of staff work.
- Manage equipment and supplies, prepare survey reports, process and review survey data, make boundary determinations and adjustments to survey control with guidance/approval of a PLS.
- Prepare estimates and proposals, participate in business development, and handle billing and account receivables for projects under the employee’s name.
- Recruit, mentor, and educate new staff.
- Collaborate with other departments and external subconsultants to meet project needs.
- Help develop and implement company policies, procedures, and standards.
- Work on diverse survey projects across commercial, transportation, environmental, industrial, and energy sectors.
- Use drafting, survey data processing, project management, Microsoft Office, and other software daily.
- Frequently interact with clients via email, phone, or meetings; represent WSP positively and professionally.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Exercise responsible, ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct; adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
- Licensed as a Professional Land Surveyor in North Carolina; or candidate with LSIT or CST certification aiming to become a PLS within 6 months.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics (Land Surveying related) with 10+ years of relevant experience; or Associate’s degree with 12+ years; or 14+ years of land surveying experience in lieu of a degree.
- Proven leadership, team‑building, and collaboration skills.
- Experience in both field and office performing various survey work.
- Experience managing and maintaining schedules, budgets, staff, and equipment.
- Experience with drafting programs and survey data processing programs.
- Experience performing boundary research, compilations, and determinations.
- Experience processing and adjusting survey control.
- In-depth knowledge of land survey principles, practices, processes, methods, and techniques.
- Willingness to both learn and teach others.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; detail oriented, organized, and responsive.
- Ability to work independently, within a team, or lead a team.
- Track record of upholding workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
- Professional Land Surveyor licensure in South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, or Florida.
- Knowledge or training in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Micro Station InRoads, Leica Infinity, Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Survey experience in field and office performing various work; experience in the Greater New York City Area and with public agencies is a plus.
- Experience preparing estimates, proposals, participating in business development, and handling billing and accounts receivables for projects under their name.
- Existing client base.
The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.
