Civil Project Engineer - Land/Site Development
Asheville, NC Full-Time On-Site $120,000 - $150,000 /yr
Position Overview We are seeking a motivated Project Engineer to support land and site development projects from concept through construction. The Project Engineer will produce civil site designs, perform calculations and technical coordination, and help manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables. This role suits an engineer with hands-on civil design experience, strong communication skills, and familiarity with AutoCAD/Civil 3D. PE or EIT status is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and develop civil site design drawings and details using AutoCAD and Civil 3D, including grading, drainage, utilities, and site layout.
- Perform engineering calculations for stormwater, hydraulics, earthwork, pavement design, and utility sizing; ensure designs meet applicable codes and standards.
- Coordinate project scope, schedule, and budgets with project managers, clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
- Support permitting efforts by preparing permit applications, supporting documentation, and responding to agency comments.
- Provide construction support including submittal review, shop drawing coordination, field observations, and responses to Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Conduct QA/QC reviews of design documents, calculations, and deliverables to ensure accuracy and constructability.
- Prepare cost estimates, schedules, and technical reports; communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians, contribute to project team collaboration, and maintain project documentation and records.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Professional Engineer certificate (PE) preferred; ability to pursue PE licensure if not yet licensed.
- 3+ years of experience in land development, site development, or civil site design; experience with site layout and grading preferred.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D for producing civil/site drawings and models.
- Strong understanding of stormwater management, grading, utilities, erosion control, and applicable local/state codes and permitting processes.
- Proven ability to perform engineering calculations and prepare technical reports and permit submittals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
