JOB SUMMARY The SWZ Estimating Project Manager is responsible for developing accurate and competitive project estimates and managing awarded projects through successful completion. This position analyzes project plans, specifications, and contract documents; prepares cost estimates and proposals; coordinates with customers, vendors, subcontractors, sales, engineering, and operations; and ensures projects are completed according to scope, schedule, budget, and customer expectations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Review project plans, specifications, contracts, and bid documents to determine scope, requirements, and project needs.

Prepare accurate and competitive estimates and proposals, including material, equipment, labor, subcontractor, and other project costs.

Obtain and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes and negotiate pricing as appropriate.

Conduct site visits as needed to verify project scope, assess conditions, and gather information for estimating and project planning.

Identify project risks, assumptions, exclusions, and potential cost impacts and develop appropriate contingencies.

Manage awarded projects from internal handoff through completion, including scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, and documentation.

Identify and manage changes in project scope, including preparation and coordination of change orders as needed.

Coordinate project activities with customers, sales, engineering, operations, vendors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.

Monitor project costs and progress against estimates and budgets, addressing changes, risks, delays, and cost variances as they arise.

Coordinate equipment, materials, services, and other resources necessary to meet project requirements and schedules.

Maintain clear communication with customers and internal teams regarding project status, requirements, changes, and issues.

Support project closeout and post-project reviews, comparing estimated and actual costs to improve estimating accuracy, processes, and profitability.

Stay current on smart work zone technology, industry trends, and applicable regulatory requirements and provide technical guidance to customers and internal teams as needed.

COMPETENCIES Knowledge of smart work zone technologies, including sensors, dynamic message signs, traffic control devices, and communication systems.

Strong analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail and accuracy in estimating.

Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to assess and manage project risks.

Proficient in estimating software, Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word), and project management tools.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and clients.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and contract documents.

Familiarity with transportation and construction industry standards, safety regulations, and compliance requirements.

Ability to manage multiple estimates simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School diploma or equivalent

Experience:

3+ years of experience in estimating, preferably within the transportation, construction, or smart work zone industry.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDSRemains in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the time.

Constantly operates a computer and other office equipment, such as a scanner, copy machine and printer.

Communicates with others in their area of expertise, both internally and externally. Exchanges accurate information in these situations.

Frequently moves equipment and supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.

Occasionally, the individual in this position will need to stand, reach, bend, stoop, and kneel.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include normal vision.

The office environment will have normal lighting and climate control tolerances.

Additionally, the office setting will have moderate noise exposure, i.e. business office with computers, printers, light traffic.

Travel conditions may involve being in an aircraft or automobile for extended periods of time.

Work is performed in the business office at a minimum of 40 hours a week.
