Responsibilities- Maintain current knowledge and understanding of security and networking best practices to offer the best solutions and protection to company systems. Keep current with the latest technologies, including the latest developments in the AEC industry, to maintain a competitive advantage and enhance user productivity through implementation of new or improved technology and procedures.
- Install, maintain, and administer computer networks and related computer hardware, systems software, applications software, and all configurations. Travel to all McGill locations on an as needed, when needed basis to ensure functionality and the highest-level employee customer experience.
- Gather data pertaining to customer needs, and use the information to identify, predict, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements. Assist IT Director in procurement of IT related assets, software, and periphery devices.
- Responsible for the day-to-day IT operations and function of all IT assets, systems, and software including applications, network, storage, and devices such as printers, plotters, scanners, servers, copiers, phone systems, cell phones and the employee customer computers.
- Ensure that all IT assets noted above are properly assigned and registered in the company’s asset management software. Maintain logs related to network functions, as well as maintenance repair records.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when necessary. Maintain an inventory of parts for emergency repairs.
- Configure, monitor, and maintain email applications, virus protection software and firewalls.
- Operate master consoles to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use.
- Design, configure, and perform updates and maintenance of image server.
- Design, configure and install network cabling and infrastructure.
- Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes. Assist IT Director with IT related contracts.
- Leverage outside technical expertise to ensure a high level of security, productivity, and overall user satisfaction at all times. Manage communications and working relationships between IT, all offices and departments within McGill as well as with outside IT service providers and vendors. Manage outside IT service providers at the request of the IT Director.
- Conduct system updates, upgrades, and planned improvements. Plan and execute upgrades and necessary service interruptions to occur during non-business hours such as nights and weekends.
- Perform routine network startup and shutdown procedures and maintain control records.
- Ensure security of IT assets, data, network access, and backup systems. Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations.
- Keep IT systems mapping current.
- Report to the IT Director any negligent use or other behaviors that could otherwise harm, or threaten the IT systems, security, or behaviors that falls outside of policy or that is inconsistent with the business interests of the company.
- Assist IT Director in producing a monthly report to the President regarding system status, tickets, project status, service interruptions and IT expenditures.
- Provide initial set up and introductory information to new employees. Follow up with employee customers to check operation and functionality.
- Escalate employee customer concerns to IT Director.
