Program / Project Manager, Operations Manager
Founded in 2006, Living Roofs Inc. designs, installs, and maintains landscape on structure projects throughout the Southeast, creating high-performing landscapes that manage stormwater, support biodiversity, and connect people with nature. The Horticulture & Maintenance Manager heads the Care & Maintenance Department, applying operational leadership and horticultural expertise to refine systems, empower crews, manage client accounts, and ensure all maintenance projects perform at their highest level.
This role shapes how the department operates and positions it for thoughtful growth and new opportunities, while offering expert guidance in horticulture across the company.
- Lead strategy and direction for Care & Maintenance Department, guiding operations, shaping processes, fostering client relationships, and driving long-term success
- Develop and maintain SOPs, workflows, and reporting standards for reliable and safe operations
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate maintenance logistics to ensure efficient, reliable service across the Southeast, including equipment, materials, crew transportation, and client communication
- Train and mentor crews in best practices and safety, fostering accountability and growth
- Direct crew tasks, including weeding, debris removal, and irrigation adjustments and repairs
Monitor site performance, ensuring crews address issues promptly - Ensure maintenance work is well-documented by crews and generate client-facing reports
- Support department growth by exploring new services, markets, and client retention strategies
- Review planting plans for compatibility, availability, and success, suggesting subs as needed
- Oversee plant procurement for new installations and ongoing maintenance, including ordering, delivery coordination, and ensuring plants are received, inspected, and any issues are resolved
- Ensure proper plant care, transport, handling, placement, installation, and sufficient watering
Oversee plant establishment during the first year, adjusting care and fine-tuning irrigation systems to ensure high plant coverage rates, thriving plants, and long-term success - Oversee long-term plant health on established projects, guiding crews to address issues, test soils, add amendments as needed, and recommend enhancements to optimize performance
- Develop horticultural SOPs and train crews in best practices to consistently meet high standards
- Previous management experience with demonstrated department growth or similar outcomes
- 3+ years horticulture experience with design sensibility & strong knowledge of Southeast plants
- Client-facing, team-focused, and confident in problem-solving and decision-making
- Supportive, solution-oriented, and an effective leader with high attention to detail
- Comfortable working outdoors, overnight travel as needed, valid driver’s license required
- Strong technology skills with Microsoft 365 & Google Workspace;
Experience with Aspire software a plus
Salary starting at $75,000 per year. Benefits include 2 weeks paid time off, 1 week paid sick leave, 8 paid holidays, 2 hours paid voting leave, paid parental leave, phone stipend, annual equipment stipend, 3% employer‑matched retirement plan, and discounted YMCA membership.
