Position Overview

The Council on Aging of Buncombe County is seeking an innovative, enthusiastic, and experienced Executive Director to lead strategy, community impact, and long-term sustainability for a dynamic and highly respected nonprofit serving older adults in Asheville and throughout Buncombe County.

This is a unique opportunity to guide a mission‑critical organization at a pivotal moment. The Executive Director will work closely with an engaged Board of Directors, dedicated staff, and community partners to shape the next chapter of aging services in the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction aligned with the organization’s mission
  • Partner closely with the Board of Directors to ensure strong governance and long-term sustainability
  • Oversee organizational operations, financial management, and staff leadership
  • Strengthen community partnerships and serve as a visible ambassador for older adults in Buncombe County
  • Lead fundraising, resource development, and external relations efforts
  • Ensure programs and services effectively meet the evolving needs of older adults
Qualifications

  • Proven executive leadership experience in nonprofit or mission‑driven organizations
  • Strong strategic planning and financial management skills
