Position Overview

Position: Behavioral Health Registered Nurse PRN

Type: Regular

This position is a member of an interdisciplinary team that provides crisis assessment and referrals for individuals with behavioral health diagnosis or substance use disorders. It provides oversight and general nursing care to persons with behavioral health challenges in an office setting, relying on education, skill, and judgment to deliver quality services with limited direction and supervision.

Education, Licensure, and Experience required: Requires an unencumbered Registered Nursing License. For certain behavioral health services additional requirements may apply.

Physical requirements to perform essential functions: Required to lift 20 lbs. Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. Must be able to pull a minimum of 25 lbs. Must be able to squat, kneel, crawl, crouch, climb, and stoop. Must be able to regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Required to regularly stand and walk.

Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in CPR from floor level, requiring work on hands, knees, bending, standing, and lifting. Vision requirements include close, distance, and peripheral vision. Must be able to talk and hear.

PRN: At least two shifts per month

In this dynamic role, you will be part of a team approach, involving structured face‑to‑face scheduled therapeutic interventions to provide support and guidance in all areas of functional domains: adaptive, communication, personal care, domestic, psychosocial, problem solving, etc., to prevent, overcome, or manage the recipient’s level of functioning and enhance their ability to remain in the community.

Job Responsibilities

As a Registered Nurse you will use your skills and expertise, current nursing assessment skills, and knowledge of nursing principles to assess and monitor clients, participate in behavioral health and substance use disorder treatment, and respond to crises promptly.

Additional responsibilities of the Registered Nurse include:
  • Following the supports and services indicated in the recipient’s Crisis Plan, a component of all person‑centered plans
  • Participating as a member of the interdisciplinary team
  • Complying with Controlled Substances policy and procedures, maintaining accurate inventories and controlled logs, and following appropriate guidelines for investigating discrepancies
  • Monitoring consumers and taking appropriate action for side effects and adverse reactions to medications
  • Assisting team members with assessing learning needs of consumers and carrying out teaching as indicated

Our ideal Registered Nurse has excellent listening and communication skills, can recognize nonverbal communication, and is eager to take on non‑standard nursing assignments.

Additional requirements for the Registered Nurse include:
  • Graduated from an accredited school of nursing with a minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Nursing
  • Meet the education, experience, licensure/certification requirements specified by the service definition of the service being provided
  • Prefer one year of nursing experience
  • Experience in behavioral health nursing preferred
  • Some college training and/or managerial experience helpful
  • Valid driver’s license (condition of employment) and personal vehicle insurance coverage
  • Must maintain proficiency in company‑sponsored training, certifications, and privileging if required
Essential physical and sensory requirements include:
  • Regularly required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear
  • Frequently required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
