Details
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) in a fast-paced, high-turnover hospital setting focused on ED decompression and enhanced throughput
  • Functions as a Clinical Decision/Direct Admit Unit — primary focus is receiving admitted patients from the ED, completing admission assessments, medication reconciliation, and initiating acute care orders
  • 40-bed unit caring for a wide variety of diagnoses requiring a well-rounded clinical background
  • Patient ratios are 1:5 for Step-Down and 1:6 for Med Surg (1:5 if combined), on both day and night shifts
  • Unit is typically staffed with a free charge nurse and 1–2 CNAs based on census
  • Baxter IV pumps used on unit
  • Documentation via Cerner
  • Day shift: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
  • Every other weekend required; no on-call responsibilities
  • Floating to other units within skill set is expected
  • Holiday coverage assistance is required
Requirements
  • Active NC or Compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (AHA or ARC accepted; certifications must not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in Med Surg, telemetry (remote), and Step-Down/PCU
  • US SSN and date of birth required for consideration — Canadian SSNs are not accepted
  • One professional reference required (two required if currently licensed in Florida or Missouri)
  • No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
Additional Information

  • Charge nurse experience is a plus, and willingness to take on a charge role is appreciated
  • Additional float opportunities may be available in the CMU Telemetry Unit (centrally monitoring telemetry patients) and as an ED Transport Nurse (assisting with moving higher-acuity patients from the ED to inpatient units)
  • Scrubs must be navy blue, white, or a combination of the two — no t-shirts; appropriate navy or white jacket/sweater permitted
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible — local candidates are not accepted
