Position: Company Police Officer (BLET Certification Required) - 3rd Shift - Full Time

Job Description

Starting pay range: $19.44/hour, based on qualifications and experience above the minimum requirements. Full time: 35+ hours per week. Third shift schedule generally 11pm to 7am, alternating short and long weeks. The Company Police Officer operates within all functions and operations of the Biltmore Company Police Department, enforcing North Carolina laws, preventing crime, and protecting life and property. Duties include vehicle and foot patrol of the property, investigations, and wildlife management.

Requirements
  • High school diploma required. Candidates must have a current North Carolina Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) certification.
  • All experience levels considered with required NC BLET certification; preferred candidates have prior law‑enforcement experience, including guest‑service settings.
  • Basic knowledge of modern law‑enforcement principles, practices, procedures, and techniques of police operations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate clearly, concisely, and effectively with a range of audiences and comply with company, state, and local reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and with computers and handling electronic data; able to quickly acquire knowledge of Biltmore’s reporting systems and protocols.
  • Must have or be able to obtain First Aid, AED, and CPR certifications.
  • Must have a valid North Carolina Driver’s License with clean driving record and be at least 18 years of age.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently required to sit, talk, hear, and see while performing the duties of this job.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, or run; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; jump, climb, kick or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, twist, turn, or crawl; push or pull objects and people; drive at high speeds; taste and smell.
  • Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to operate handguns, rifles, ammunition, shotgun, handcuffs, ballistic vest, keys, pencil and pen, baton, ticket book, personal computer, etc.
  • Occasionally lift or move more than 150 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, night vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to effect an arrest, forcibly if necessary, using handcuffs and other restraints; subdue resisting suspects using techniques and weapons, resorting to hands, feet, and other approved weapons in self‑defense.
  • Must pursue fleeing suspects and perform rescue operations that may involve quickly entering and exiting patrol vehicles; lifting, carrying, and dragging heavy objects; climbing over and pulling oneself over obstacles; jumping down from elevated surfaces; climbing through openings; crawling in confined areas; balancing on uneven or narrow surfaces; using body force to gain entrance through barriers.
  • Must be able to operate a police vehicle during both day and night; in emergency situations involving speeds in excess of posted limits; in congested traffic and unsafe road conditions caused by fog, rain, ice, and snow.
  • Must perform rescue functions at accidents, emergencies, and disasters, including directing traffic for extended periods, administering emergency medical aid, lifting, dragging, and carrying people away from danger, and evacuating people from hazardous areas.

Job Duties
  • Participate in the development of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the department.
  • Participate in law‑enforcement programs to better carry out the policies and goals of the Biltmore Company.
  • Conduct special investigations as needs arise.
  • Work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, and midnights on weekdays, weekends, or holidays.
  • Evaluate evidence, witnesses, and suspects in criminal cases to identify trends, similarities, or connections with other cases.
  • Participate in annual law‑enforcement in‑service training and other training events as required.
  • Prepare and submit incident reports regarding actions occurring on the property, including criminal investigations and vehicle accidents.
  • Meet with other law‑enforcement officials, community and business representatives to discuss all aspects of the department’s activities.
  • Attend regional and state police conferences and meetings with other public officials as required.
