Job Description
The starting pay for this position is $17.09/hour and is based on the level of experience and qualifications beyond the minimum requirements for the role.
This position receives a 2nd shift pay differential of $1.25/hour. (Base pay of $17.09 + 2nd shift differential $1.25 = $18.34/hour)
Shifts can vary, but are generally 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm, with night shifts as needed.
Full Time: a position working 32+ hours per week.
The Biltmore Company Police Telecommunicator receives and responds to telephone, radio, alarm system, or other requests for emergency and non-emergency assistance, including law enforcement, fire, medical, or other emergency services. Other related duties include, but are not limited to: dispatching appropriate units to response sites; maintaining contact with all field units and other agencies; responding to all phones and alarm systems that communicate directly into the communications center;
monitors all alarm (fire, access control, intrusion) and CCTV systems with a primary focus on those systems outside of Biltmore House; and general assistance and support for leadership, the department, and the company as required.
Job Duties
- Receives and prioritizes emergency and non-emergency telephone and radio calls for service from Biltmore Company staff and guest.
- Operates multi-frequency, multi-radio communication system.
- Dispatches Company Police and other departments to emergency and routine calls.
- Answers emergency and routine phone calls.
- Maintains communication with parties involved in emergency situations.
- Must condense, type and record large amounts of information into logs and reporting systems.
- Relays vital information to 911 for response from outside public safety agencies.
- Monitors burglar, intrusion, fire and environmental alarms across all companies.
- Dispatches appropriate personnel to alarm activations.
- High school diploma required; additional education or training preferred; must be able to obtain DCI computer operator certification.
- Must have or be able to obtain the NC Telecommunicator certificate.
- At least one (1) year of related field experience preferred.
- Demonstrated commitment to delivery of world-class internal/external guest service.
- Ability to quickly acquire comprehensive knowledge of the geography of Biltmore and estate properties, including the location of streets, structures and landmarks.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills; must be able to convey information clearly, concisely, and effectively in emergency situations.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook; ability to quickly learn Biltmore systems. Prior experience with EMS systems/communications a plus.
- Excellent organizational and planning skills; can multitask under duress, prioritize, and adapt as needed.
- Proactive, exercises good judgment; clear thinker, calm in emergencies; creative problem solver; can anticipate and troubleshoot.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Candidates must be able to sit for extended periods of time.
- Candidates will possess normal hearing and eyesight.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to remain calm in stressful and emergency situations essential.
- Ability to operate a console/keyboard for extended periods of time.
