Security Officer

The Islamic Association of Raleigh (IAR) is seeking a reliable, professional, and service-oriented Security Officer to help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for our staff, students, volunteers, visitors, and community members.

This is a full-time, in-person position working Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
, primarily during school days. The Security Officer will be responsible for monitoring IAR premises, responding to security concerns, maintaining a visible security presence, and helping ensure the safety and security of the IAR campus.

The Islamic Association of Raleigh (IAR) is an Islamic center serving as a mosque, school, and gathering place for the Muslim community in the Research Triangle region of North Carolina. IAR is the largest mosque in the Carolinas and among the oldest in the area, hosting over three thousand congregants every Friday.

The Security Officer shall be responsible for:

• Patrol IAR premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure the security of doors, windows, gates, and other access points.
• Maintain a visible security presence throughout the IAR campus.
• Monitor the entrance and departure of employees, students, volunteers, visitors, community members, and other individuals to help maintain the safety and security of the premises.
• Answer alarms and investigate disturbances or unusual activity.
• Write reports of daily activities and irregularities, including equipment or property damage, theft, unauthorized persons, or other unusual occurrences.
• Contact police, fire, or emergency medical services (911) when necessary in cases of emergency, including fire, serious injury, or other situations requiring immediate assistance.
• Assist law enforcement and emergency personnel as needed and directed.
• Circulate among visitors, students, patrons, and employees to help preserve order and protect property.
• Familiarize yourself with IAR’s rules, regulations, and security procedures.
• Politely address and report rule infractions or violations and notify the appropriate IAR representative when necessary.
• Inspect security system equipment and other security-related equipment to ensure proper operation and identify signs of tampering.
• Report safety and security concerns promptly to IAR management or the designated Security Committee representative.
• Perform other security-related duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience as a security officer or in a related security position preferred.
• Good command of the English language, both written and verbal.
• Professional, reliable, and dependable.
• Helpful, courteous, and respectful attitude when interacting with staff, students, families, and community members.
• Strong observation and situational awareness skills.
• Ability to remain calm and professional during stressful or emergency situations.
• Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse community.
• Ability to follow IAR policies, procedures, and instructions.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise good judgment.
• Ability to work independently while also coordinating effectively with IAR staff and leadership.

Compensation is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and knowledge. The employee will be a non-exempt hourly employee
. IAR personnel policies govern work conditions and benefits. All staff members are subject to a 90-day probationary period and annual performance reviews.
