Job Description

The starting pay range for this position begins at $18.62/hour and is based on the level of qualifications and relevant experience above the minimum requirements. The Painter position will be responsible for assessing, scheduling and applying paint, varnishes and stain to decorate and protect the interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of all rooms, hallways and public areas of the Inn on Biltmore Estate and cottages.

The Painter will also work with vinyl wall coverings, as well as make repairs to wallpaper, and hang new if necessary.

Additional responsibilities include:

making repairs to drywall surfaces and installing, finishing and painting to look as new. Attention to detail in prep work, such as patching, caulking, sanding and priming is essential.

The position works mostly a first shift from 7:30am-4pm Sunday - Thursday.

• High school or GED preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of multi task painting, wall papering and drywall installation.
• Fluency in job related English is preferred.
• Certifications not necessary but preferred.
• Must be able to climb and work off of a ladder.
• Must have reliable transportation to work and drivers license to operate a company vehicle.

• Reads software orders and/or receives instructions from the Engineering Manager regarding projects.
• Smooths surfaces and removes old paint to prepare surfaces for painting.
• Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other filler.
• Selects premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors.
• Removes fixtures such as pictures and electric switch covers from walls prior to painting.
• Spreads drop cloths over floors and room furnishings, and covers surfaces such as baseboards, door frames, and windows with masking tape and paper to protect surfaces during painting.
• Paints surfaces with brushes, spray gun, or paint rollers.
• Erects scaffolding or sets up ladders to perform tasks above ground level.
• Washes surfaces prior to painting with mildew remover.
• Monitor and maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned work areas.
• Maintain complete knowledge of correct maintenance and use of equipment. Use equipment only as intended.
• Maintain complete knowledge of the paints and caulking colors used in all areas of the Inn.
• Prepare or protect all surfaces from paint splatter, over spray and dust.
• Maintain complete knowledge at all times of:
  • All Inn features, services and hours of operation.
  • All room types, number, layout, décor and location.
  • Room availability status for any given day.
  • Scheduled daily group activities.

• Exert physical effort in transporting 50 – 75 pounds frequently.
• Endure various physical movements throughout the work areas.
• Reach, push, pull, bend and lift.
• Ability to remain in stationary or ambulatory positions throughout work shift.
• This job involves working in the Engineering workshop and all areas of the Hotel:
  • Under variable temperature conditions (extreme heat or cold).
  • Under variable noise levels.
  • Outdoors and indoors.
  • Around fumes and odor hazards.
