Overview
MB HAYNES CORPORATION, located in Asheville, NC, has provided solid, stable careers since 1921. We are seeking a 1st Class Lineman to join our 100% Employee Owned team. Must live or be willing to relocate within a one hour radius of the main office in Asheville, NC. The position involves repairs and replacement of transmission and distribution power lines, with emphasis on safety due to electrical hazards.
Responsibilities- Repairs and replaces transmission and distribution power lines between generating stations, substations, and consumers.
- Open switches or clamp grounding devices to de-energize lines or accessories as directed by the Line Supervisor.
- Climb poles or ride bucket trucks to remove broken or defective wires.
- Secure new wire to cross-arm insulators and splice wire to adjoining sections of the line.
- Transfer wires from defective poles to poles erected by Ground Helpers.
- Install pole hardware and auxiliary equipment such as transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses, and insulators using hand tools.
- Use insulated ladders and platforms and operate hot sticks with grasping and crimping tools to handle energized lines safely.
- Service streetlight systems and patrol power lines, and perform other duties as assigned.
- Must pass criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Class A commercial driver license (CDL).
- Experience with maximum voltage power line repair (e.g., 120-240 V secondary, 23, V distribution, or 138 kV transmission).
- Experience in repair of energized lines or de-energized conductors on electronically conductive metal towers (typically 100 ft or more above ground).
- Must live within 1 hour of the main office or be willing to relocate to Western North Carolina.
- 1st Class Journeyman Lineman certificate or proof of successful completion of a Lineman Apprenticeship is preferred but not required.
- Positive attitude, excellent attendance, and ability to work cooperatively with colleagues, inspectors, customers, and the public.
