Foster Family Alliance of NC is a statewide organization dedicated to supporting foster, adoptive, and kinship families through advocacy, education, and community engagement. The organization works closely with child welfare agencies and community partners to improve outcomes for children and youth in care. It provides training, resources, and peer support to help caregivers navigate the foster and adoption systems. Staff members are part of a mission-driven team focused on strengthening families and promoting safe, permanent homes for children across North Carolina.

Role Description

The Adoption, Promotion, Training and Support Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in Asheville, NC. This position is responsible for promoting adoption and foster care programs, building awareness in the community, and supporting families through the adoption and foster care process. Day-to-day responsibilities include coordinating and delivering trainings for foster and adoptive parents, creating and presenting educational materials, and facilitating support groups or family engagement activities.

The specialist will respond to inquiries from caregivers, provide resource referrals, and collaborate with social workers and partner agencies to ensure consistent support. The role also involves tracking program participation, maintaining accurate documentation, and using data to improve services and outreach efforts.

Qualifications
  • Experience and knowledge in adoption and foster care, with a strong understanding of child welfare systems.
  • Social work and human services skills, including family support, case coordination, and collaboration with community partners.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present trainings and facilitate group discussions.
  • Analytical skills to track program activities, interpret data, and recommend improvements to services and outreach.
  • Relevant education such as a bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, education, or a related field; advanced degrees are a plus.
  • Experience working with diverse families and communities, with a commitment to equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed practice.
  • Ability to work on-site in Asheville, NC, manage multiple priorities, and maintain detailed documentation.
  • Proficiency with basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office or Google Workspace) and comfort with learning new systems.
