Job Title: Ophthalmic Technician (formerly listed as Medical Assistant/Ophthalmic Technician)

Travel: You will regularly travel to our other office in Paintsville, KY and occasionally Lexington, KY. Mileage is paid.

Summary

An Ophthalmic Technician is a valuable asset to an Ophthalmologist as they assist in providing excellent patient care during visits. This role handles a wide range of duties and uses equipment to perform initial testing to prepare a patient for an exam with an Ophthalmologist.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service during every patient encounter (in person or via phone)
  • Greet patients promptly with a professional attitude and thank them when they leave
  • Maintain urgency with patient and doctor timelines
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures including HIPAA
  • Verify patient information by interviewing the patient
  • Record medical history, current medications and purpose of visit
  • Record all data in the patient’s Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
  • Check eye condition by observing pupils, muscles, visual acuity, and extraocular movements
  • Required skills include: dilation, refraction, pressures, and performing diagnostic tests including visual fields, OCT, GDX, IOL Master, autorefractor and topography
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of eye anatomy, diseases, symptoms and ocular medications
  • General office duties and cleaning as assigned by manager

    One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Licenses And Credentials
  • Current COA or COT certification is preferred, but not required
Systems And Technology
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
Physical Requirements
  • Frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%) with occasional bending, stooping, and reaching
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs
  • Fine motor skills and use of hands for grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology
  • Required visual and auditory acuity, including color, depth, peripheral vision, and focus adjustment
  • Occasional driving or climbing may be necessary
