We are hiring a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for our growing team that will provide services for the Bellefonte Hospital! The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is a licensed practitioner who is responsible for managing acute psychiatric conditions and substance withdrawal care for patients within the behavioral health setting in accordance with State and Federal rules and regulations and the nursing standards of care (assessment of health status, diagnosis, development of plan of care and treatment, implementation of treatment plan, and evaluation of patient status).

Key Responsibilities
  • Functions independently to perform age-appropriate psychiatric evaluations in collaboration with MD.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic and therapeutic tests relative to patient’s needs.
  • Prescribes appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
  • Implements interventions to support the patient to regain or maintain mental health stability.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Ensures that any prescription needed by a patient is called into the designated pharmacy at time of discharge.
  • Completes suicide risk assessments as indicated.
  • Participates in treatment team and discharge planning.
  • In case of an emergency, refers a patient to a specialist or emergency room for further treatment of acute medical conditions.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary team members by making appropriate referrals and providing educational tools to facilitate staff, patient and family decision making.
  • Serves as a member of the Utilization Review team.
  • Communicates with payors who may be denying a level of care when medical necessity justifies higher levels of care; the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner is the last option when the Utilization Review team is unsuccessful.
  • Ensures confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and ARC Health Systems privacy policies.
  • Maintains a respectful and professional working relationship with staff and patients.
  • Reports concerns regarding policies on patient privacy without retaliation.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision.
  • Prioritizes work and responsibilities effectively.
  • Completes comprehensive psychiatric evaluation within 24 hours of admission.
  • Completes all medical notes on the same day of service.
  • Is available 24/7 for emergency consultations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Key Experience and Education Needed
  • APRN credentials.
  • NP License in the state of Kentucky.
  • Inpatient psychiatric experience preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Adherence to confidentiality requirements as outlined in 42 CFR, Part 2.
  • Computer literacy with experience in a Windows or Chrome environment.
  • Understanding of the impact of alcohol and other drugs on individuals and families.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle crisis situations calmly and supportively.
  • Professional and courteous behavior consistent with the Pioneer Rural Health statement when interacting with diverse clients.
  • Physical mobility sufficient to move around the office and community.
