Overview
The Military-Connected Vocational Admissions Counselor will be trained to provide assistance to prospective transfer, graduate and military-connected students to accommodate the specialized needs of these populations. They will work to enroll students by liaising between prospects and appropriate campus departments via our office staff on the Ashland, OH main campus. This position will also establish relationships with local military and veteran organizations (Amvets, American Legion, VFW, etc.)
and strengthen their affinity with Ashland University by providing resources and materials as well as helping capture advertising and sponsorship opportunities. The role focuses on recruiting military-connected students, particularly those inclined to non-traditional pathways to degree-seeking programs, by deploying vocational rehabilitation and rapid retraining strategies with a focus on micro-credentialing, licenses, and certificates. They will help the department capitalize on opportunities to synthesize recruitment with the AU Career Center for Life Calling (CCLC) and corporate partnership programs by providing career coaching, advising, and planning as part of the enrollment process, thereby maximizing reach and matriculation for students who might not otherwise enroll due to the obstacles and scenarios intrinsic to their military-connected status.
In short, they will provide targeted guidance to students who would otherwise drop out of the enrollment process or not consider Ashland University for career advancement or further education.
- Communicate with prospective students, parents, and the community through appointments, phone calls, emails, and other materials.
- Coordinate with the appropriate campus leadership to welcome prospective students to campus.
- Process paperwork, interview applicants, and arrange and conduct campus tours.
- Conduct follow-up activities with prospective and new students, including emails, text messages, and phone campaigns.
- Maintain recruiting operations at military installations, community colleges, and high schools with a focus on transfer, online, and adult students.
- Advise students and families regarding educational opportunities, options, admission requirements, policies, and procedures as appropriate.
- Conduct effective phone and virtual presentations.
- Work cooperatively to provide data for reporting, institutional research, and institutional effectiveness.
- Assist in the submission of military-benefit applications and provide support to prospective students and their families throughout the application process.

Required Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Experience in student recruitment, university admissions, public relations, marketing, sales, or communications.
- Experience in database systems, planning, management, and decision making.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
