Position Overview

Principal Faculty for the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (12‑month, full‑time) – Ashland University, Schar College of Nursing and Health Sciences, Department Medical Sciences.

The Principal Faculty member works closely with the Program Director and other faculty to implement and maintain the curriculum in accordance with ARC‑PA Standards, serving as course director.

• Support the mission of Ashland University and the Dwight Schar College of Nursing and Health Sciences and its philosophy of Accent on the Individual.
• Develop and review the mission statement of the PA Program.
• Provide academic instruction and serve as an academic advisor to students.
• Participate in review and revision of program competencies, goals, and the mission statement.
• Develop, implement, evaluate, and ensure course syllabi maintain compliance with ARC‑PA Standards.
• Participate in evaluating student performances and in the program’s ongoing self‑assessment, analysis, and accreditation processes with primary responsibility for didactic education components.
• Assist in providing documented compliance with ARC‑PA accreditation standards.
• Develop and maintain the didactic year sections of the student handbook.
• Design and implement summative evaluations.
• Provide remedial instruction of didactic year students.
• Participate in the admissions process including student recruitment and selection.
• Serve as a member of PA program committees as assigned by the PA Program Director.
• Participate in state and national PA organizations to promote the program and profession.
• Participate in professional development activities outside of the PA program in areas of clinical practice, scholarly activities or advancement of educational degree as agreed upon by the Program Director.
• Agree not to participate as a health‑care provider for students in the program, except in an emergency situation.
• Perform other duties as determined by negotiation at the annual performance review by the Program Director.

• Master’s degree or higher.
• Certification and licensure requirements met specific to the discipline.
• Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience consistent with academic preparation.

• Prior teaching and/or administrative experience in PA education or another healthcare‑related field.
• Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills.
• Active engagement in scholarly work consistent with academic preparation and clinical expertise.
• Ability to build collegial relationships.
• Active service or leadership at the local, regional, or national level.

• Availability to participate in events important to the ongoing success of the University and College.
• Ability to work indoors in a moderately stressful environment and adapt to changes in workload.
• Physical requirements may include frequent sitting, walking, lifting, reaching, pushing/pulling, and twisting.

Term: 12‑month fixed‑term, Clinical Assistant (Tenure‑Track, no Service Basis).
