Title:
ADULT EDUCATION TEACHER

Reports to: Adult Education Director

Job Objective: Plans, implements and assesses student learning experiences.

Minimum
· Valid state department of education license/certificate as determined at the time of appointment.

Qualifications:
· Adheres to the Licensure Code of Professional Conduct for Ohio Educators.

  • Complies with drug‑free workplace rules, board policies and administrative guidelines/procedures.

  • Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.

  • Identifies prerequisite employment skills and profiles essential training characteristics. Assists with program planning and curriculum development. Develops course syllabus.
  • Ensures program compliance with all required criteria to maintain accreditations/charters.
  • Recommends class schedules based on enrollment demand and equipment/classroom availability.
  • Collaborates with public/private entities. Seeks opportunities to participate in joint training ventures. Coordinates arrangements with employers to provide on‑site training opportunities with externships or internships.
  • Communicates program objectives/performance expectations to students.
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of subject matter and pedagogy. Organizes subject content and learning goals. Prepares instructional materials. Arranges the classroom for instruction.
  • Evaluates academic needs of students. Develops effective educational experiences that engage and stimulate student learning. Varies instructional techniques to address student learning styles.
  • Actively collaborates with staff to share effective instructional strategies and resources.
  • Uses formal and informal assessment strategies to manage student learning and monitor progress.
  • Helps students evaluate career options. Promotes a balanced perspective of work and family life.
  • Identifies/obtains community‑based job training/employment opportunities. Coordinates student participation (e.g., job placements, application/interview processes, work site adaptations, job coaching, student progress reports, attendance/retention, etc.).
  • Supervises/participates in supplemental program activities (e.g., training conferences, field trips, job fairs, student competitions/award programs, summer intern programs, etc.) as directed.
  • Helps identify/resolve problems that impede student participation in appropriate learning activities.
  • Advocates for students. Pays attention to student demeanor. Draws out feelings/concerns.
  • Helps students better understand themselves, make appropriate choices and grow academically. Promotes cultural awareness, self‑reliance, problem‑solving, critical‑thinking and creativity skills.
  • Facilitates student learning activities that encourage teamwork and positive peer relationships.
  • Evaluates student achievement/performance. Prepares progress reports.
  • Proctors state/district testing activities as directed. Upholds mandated security procedures.
  • Ensures that student lists and teaching materials are readily available for substitutes.
  • Works with administrators to ensure that program equipment is available/working when needed.
