Overview
The Health Officer provides crisis intervention services to individuals experiencing mental health emergencies. This includes community-based assessments, safety planning, crisis counseling, pre-screening for psychiatric hospitalization, and coordination with systems such as hospitals, jails, and courts. The position supports individuals in achieving emotional and behavioral stability while maintaining independence in the least restrictive setting. Services may be provided in person or via telephone and are delivered using trauma-informed, person-centered care practices.
Responsibilities- Provide direct crisis intervention via face-to-face meetings, telephone, and emergency outreach.
- Conduct assessments to determine the need for psychiatric hospitalization and complete required pre-screening documentation.
- Develop individualized safety and treatment plans during crisis episodes.
- Complete mental health assessments and treatment plans as appropriate.
- Respond to crisis calls in various settings, including jails and hospitals.
- Collaborate with external partners (e.g., jail staff, law enforcement, hospitals, courts) to ensure coordinated care.
- Provide short-term counseling and support during crisis stabilization.
- Ensure accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record (Streamline).
- Participate in multidisciplinary case coordination and collaboration.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or agency leadership.
- Current Ohio license required: LSW, LPC, or higher (e.g., LISW, LPCC)
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with severe mental illness or in behavioral health crisis situations.
- Training in crisis intervention and knowledge of local community resources.
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Ability to work independently and respond effectively in high-pressure situations.
