Job Description
The Desktop Engineer is a forward-thinking IT professional responsible for ensuring optimal desktop and endpoint operations across our diverse environment. This role not only covers traditional desktop support but also integrates modern endpoint management practices including cloud and mobile device management (MDM), cybersecurity fundamentals, and server-level administration. The successful candidate will be proficient in managing environments that leverage tools such as Microsoft Intune, Autopilot, JAMF for Apple device management, and traditional systems like Active Directory, Entra, and Azure.
They will work collaboratively with IT peers, security teams, and client services to ensure that computer images, software deployments, and system customizations meet the highest standards of reliability, scalability, and security, in line with NIST guidelines and industry best practices.
- Create, maintain, and deploy modern computer images for Windows and Mac OS environments.
- Manage and update endpoint devices using both traditional systems (e.g., Jira, JAMF) and modern cloud-based tools (e.g., Microsoft Intune).
- Manage Windows Autopilot
- Oversee mobile device management (MDM) practices to ensure secure and efficient management of enterprise mobile devices.
- Manage cloud applications and enforce cloud app security protocols.
- Execute lower-level system administrator duties, including server patching, customizations, and routine maintenance.
- Administer and maintain Active Directory, Entra, and Azure environments to support organizational infrastructure.
- Help support the Hyper-V server environment and infrastructure.
- Integrate cybersecurity practices into daily operations, ensuring compliance with NIST standards and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to implement machine hardening, secure patching, and proactive vulnerability management.
- Develop and execute scripts (using Power Shell and other scripting languages) to automate routine tasks and OS setting adjustments.
- Maintain a comprehensive update schedule for operating systems and applications, ensuring timely patching and customization.
- Respond to user tickets regarding software deployment, device management, and system updates, providing excellent end-user support.
- Analyze the impact of proposed technology changes and document policies, procedures, and technical guides.
- Train and mentor junior IT staff, serving as a role model and technical resource within the team.
- Work closely with IT support, security, networking, and other project teams to develop and implement scalable technology solutions.
- Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance the overall efficiency, security, and reliability of IT operations.
