The Packer is responsible for working in an area producing product that is packed into trays/cartons for shipping. Preparations include creating cartons and displays, manually packing and palletizing product, and completing final quality inspections of finished goods to ensure compliance with packaging specifications.
Responsibilities- Prepares cartons/carton displays by folding, taping, sorting, and labeling cartons.
- Manually packs product, palletizes, and places cartons/trays on the work area.
- Ensures tape guns have sufficient tape and conducts visual inspections of final product packaging for integrity.
- Removes out‑of‑specification product and communicates packaging problems.
- Fills cartons/displays based on packaging specifications and secures appropriate labels, seals, and tape.
- Stacks correct number of cartons/trays on pallets/skids using correct stacking patterns.
- Utilizes pallet jack to move finished goods weighing up to 300 lbs when applicable.
- Cleans and discards defective bags, boxes, trays, and sweeps loose product off the floor.
- Assists with product rework according to plant expectations.
- Maintains hand hygiene and follows safety and hygiene guidelines for safe housekeeping and personal protection.
- Keeps work area clean, adheres to 5S protocols, and stores packaging room supplies in designated areas.
- Clears aisles, exits, and turntables of obstructions, removes trash from the floor, and follows safe lifting / carrying instructions.
- Performs sanitation tasks such as equipment washes, seasoner cleanings, and wipeouts as directed.
- Prepares line for startup and assists with equipment changeovers when applicable.
- Operates tray‑making and/or stapling machines as required.
- Reports issues to Machine Operators, Group Leader, or Supervisor as appropriate.
- May perform other duties as required and mandatory overtime may be required.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- At least 1 year of production experience in a manufacturing environment.
