Packaging Machine Operator
The Packaging Machine Operator is responsible for the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of snack packaging machinery in a manufacturing environment. The position requires reading the production schedule, managing inventory, adjusting machinery settings, performing changeovers, maintaining clean working conditions, reporting maintenance issues, and providing leadership to the packaging line. The role may also support coordination duties and seasonal seasoning tasks as needed.
Responsibilities- Operate snack packaging machinery safely and efficiently.
- Read the production schedule and plan operations accordingly.
- Maintain continuous operation by monitoring machine codes, dates, and prices.
- Ensure an adequate supply of roll stock and that all packaging materials are available for each machine.
- Adjust machine micro‑logic set‑up as needed to maintain efficient, low‑waste operation.
- Perform machine setups, changeovers, routine running, procedural adjustments, sanitation clean‑up, and shutdown.
- Plan and execute machine changeovers and product transitions efficiently.
- Monitor and adjust machines to ensure proper film cut‑offs, bag seals, back seals, and standard speeds.
- Check weights and product appearance as required.
- Account for product run‑off, sort, and rework good product.
- Keep machines and work areas clean: wipe machines, blow‑down area, store supplies in designated areas.
- Report maintenance problems immediately to Maintenance Mechanic or Supervisor.
- Follow safety and hygiene guidelines, housekeeping, and personal protection procedures.
- Keep aisles and exits clear, remove trash, and report injuries.
- Provide leadership and direction to the entire packaging line.
- May serve as a Back‑up Packaging Coordinator or perform other technical responsibilities.
- May monitor and replenish seasoning on the overhead.
- Mandatory overtime may be required; may perform other duties as requested.
- High School Diploma or GED; and/or 1‑year production experience in a manufacturing environment required.
- Must be able to lift 40–50 lbs on a regular basis; occasionally lift/move >50 lbs with assistance.
- Continuous standing, frequent walking, and continuous use of hands.
- Occasional overhead work and ladder climbing; stooping, kneeling, bending, and twisting as required.
- Ability to lift/squat up to 10–25 lbs frequently; up to 60 lbs continuously; up to 100 lbs occasionally; >100 lbs seldom or never.
- Work in wet and/or humid conditions; exposure to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, and chemicals.
- Noise level is typically loud; must adapt to continuous high noise.
The employee works around moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to wet or humid conditions, high and precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level is usually loud.
Compensation and BenefitsIndividual base pay depends on work location and other factors such as experience, job-related skills, and relevant education or training.
