Position Summary
Summer Camp Position Pool – Southern Oregon University.
Applicants in the pool are considered for temporary, part‑time summer camp appointments on an as‑needed basis. Positions are for one to two weeks in the summer and may vary by role and responsibilities. Applicants may withdraw at any time and must re‑apply annually for continued consideration.

• Required driver’s license and successful criminal background check for security‑sensitive positions.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Academy theme, activities, classes, and workshops.
- Lead opening and closing camp sessions and all workshops.
- Plan, prepare, and oversee hands‑on activities and guest speakers.
- Coordinate with SOU Youth Programs for staff training and emergency preparedness.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher.
- Experience working with middle and high school students.
- Experience leading teams with effective communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
- Proactive assessment of camp operations; anticipation of potential needs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous camp organization, coordination, or teaching experience.
- Basic First Aid and CPR training.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and divide duties between the two Head Residents.
- Supervise Senior Counseling staff and mentor them.
- Manage health and wellness initiatives, including medication dispensing and tracking emergencies.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions and lead some sessions if asked.
- Maintain awareness of camp activity flow and provide proactive support.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least two years of college completed or currently pursuing a degree.
- Minimum one year of prior experience as an Academy Senior Counselor.
- Experience working with middle and high school students.
- Strong leadership and team‑working abilities.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
- Proactive assessment of camp operations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic First Aid and CPR training.
Responsibilities:
- Directly supervise 8–12 students during non‑class periods.
- Lead group activities; provide counseling and problem‑solving support.
- Assist with minor first aid and routine medication support.
- Attend staff meetings and training sessions; proactively support when needed.
- Alert Head Residents to arising issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 18 years old.
- Enrolled in college or university; completed freshman year.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
- Effective communication skills, verbal and written.
- Calm, efficient, supportive behavior, especially in crises.
- Self‑discipline to maintain high enthusiasm and supervisory responsibility.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Basic First Aid and CPR training.
- Life Guard training.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engaging 90‑minute classes for a specified age group over four consecutive days.
- Create age‑appropriate curriculum that encourages critical thinking and Project‑Based Learning.
- Arrive 15 minutes early and remain until the class concludes or students are transferred.
- Maintain a safe and supportive classroom environment, uphold camp policies, and manage behavior.
- Attend required staff training sessions; prepare classroom and supplies each day.
- Complete daily attendance records and report absences or tardies.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Passion for teaching young students.
- At least one year’s experience with the subject matter.
- Upper‑class undergraduate or 20+ years old.
- Ability to design engaging curriculum for 4–5 days of ≤90 minutes per session.
Preferred Qualifications:
- College graduate.
- At least one year’s professional teaching experience in a classroom setting.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Fluency in creating a positive, cooperative, productive atmosphere with diverse populations.
