Position Summary
Southern Oregon University is recruiting adjunct instructors through a pooled procurement. Applicants will be considered for temporary, part‑time teaching positions in the College of Natural & Social Sciences/Psychology and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Appointments may be one term (13 weeks) or multiple terms as needed.
Roles & Responsibilities- Teach undergraduate courses in Psychology, including introductory psychology, research methods, Industrial/Organizational psychology, learning & memory, behavioral neuropsychology, and personality.
- Teach courses in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, including Counseling Theory, Career Counseling, Group Counseling, Assessment, and serve as supervisors for individual and group practicum courses.
- Prepare course materials, deliver instruction, and conduct assessments.
- Coordinate with students outside of class through office hours, appointments, and email.
- Assist with course and curriculum planning and academic advising.
- When required, provide laboratory or workshop instruction involving instrumentation and safe handling of materials.
- Return to training and professional development as needed.
- Master’s degree in Psychology or Counseling, or a terminal degree (Ph.D., Psy.
D.) in a related field. - Demonstrated teaching potential, including experience or possible experience in teaching.
- Familiarity with instructional equipment required for the discipline.
- For Clinical Mental Health Counseling, completed Master’s in Counseling or related field; may be currently licensed as a counselor.
- Master’s degree specifically in the discipline taught.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarship, and active participation in institutional and professional activities.
- One academic year of full‑time college teaching experience or equivalent part‑time experience while a graduate student.
- Experience with online or hybrid teaching methods.
Rate of Pay: $650/ELU for non‑terminally prepared adjunct instructors and $750/ELU for terminally prepared adjunct instructors (term‑by‑term). A typical 4‑credit course loads at 4 ELU.
Employment Type:
Temporary, part‑time, with terms of 13 weeks, renewable as required. Full‑time equivalency for a term is typically less than 7.5 ELU but may reach 15 ELU per term or 45 ELU per year for 1.0 full‑time equivalence.
Benefits:
Not eligible for benefits position is classified as exempt under FLSA and is not subject to overtime. The incumbent may be required to complete a background check.
