Sunday – Thursday: 12:45pm – 9:15pm (subject to change with notice). Requires flexible hours for extended hours, intersessions, and summer term. Estimated weekly hours: 35–45.
Core Responsibilities- Lead the Evening/Weekend Access Services team; closes the library during weeknights and Sundays and may cover opening shifts.
- Manage the circulation desk independently during evening and weekend shifts; assist patrons in person, over the phone, and via email.
- Resolve circulation issues and non‑routine problems, create and update patron records, and process payments for library charges.
- Support resource sharing: printing local and Summit hold slips and pulling items from shelves.
- Open the library, secure and report problems related to opening procedures, and monitor public safety and security issues.
- Act as the primary staff contact for student employees during evening and weekend shifts.
- Coordinate and manage the creation and update of the Course Reserves collection each term.
- Serve as stacks coordinator: perform inventory, weeding, and shelf reading for all regular collections (audio‑visual, periodicals, books). Collaborate with other staff on student‑worker projects.
- Provide backup coverage for opening and extended‑hours shifts.
- Participate in special projects, committees, teams, and working groups; contribute to strategic planning initiatives in line with the university’s mission and values.
- Bachelor’s degree plus two years of current library experience (within 5years) or four years of current library experience.
- Advanced proficiency in multiple library‑specific computer applications (integrated library systems, database applications, institutional repository, content‑management systems).
- Knowledge of major library classification systems (Dewey Decimal and/or Library of Congress).
- Experience working in an academic library and student supervisory experience (hiring, training, scheduling, budgeting).
- Working knowledge of Ex Libris Alma (ILS).
- Ability to use spreadsheets and word‑processing efficiently.
- Demonstrated ability to support diversity, equity, and inclusion in public services.
- Experience at a public/user‑facing service desk.
- Proficiency with general office equipment (scanners, copiers, multi‑line telephones, fax machine, cash register).
- Fast learning, constructive engagement in a fast‑paced environment; self‑starter.
- In‑depth knowledge of specialty areas (original cataloguing, copy cataloguing, serials, ILL, government documents, image resources, music).
- Prior experience with image‑resource management and music collections.
- Excellent communication skills; clear and concise verbal and written communication.
- Strong analytical and research skills; ability to evaluate information and make well‑reasoned recommendations.
- Ability to handle rapid changes in policies and procedures under pressure.
- Attention to detail, strong organizational and time‑management skills; ability to prioritize multiple assignments with fluctuating deadlines.
- Proficiency with computer applications: word processing, spreadsheets, databases, online systems, social‑media platforms, internet, email, and online calendaring.
- Ability to maintain a positive, cooperative work atmosphere and establish effective relationships across diverse populations and cultural backgrounds.
- Willingness to work in a bureaucratic environment with regular interaction with various organizational levels and outside agencies.
- Ability to quickly learn university infrastructure, policies, and procedures; provide training and direction to student assistants.
