Position Summary

Southern Oregon University is adding adjunct instructors to its College of Arts & Humanities/Creative Arts. Candidates are considered for temporary, part‑time teaching appointments for one or multiple terms. The role is fully exempt under FLSA. The incumbent may teach courses in Art & Art History, Creative Writing, or Emerging Media & Digital Arts, depending on term needs.

• Prepare and deliver course content in assigned modules.
• Plan lessons, design assignments, and assess student work.
• Conduct office hours and provide academic advising.
• Maintain appropriate classroom or studio equipment and ensure safety.
• Collaborate with peers and engage in professional development when required.
• Participate in service activities, such as committee work or student support, if assigned.

• Adjunct Instructor (term‑by‑term): advanced degree in the discipline or a bachelor’s degree plus equivalent master's‑level experience; demonstrated teaching potential.
• Adjunct Assistant Professor: terminal degree in the discipline or a master’s degree in progress toward a terminal degree; demonstrated teaching potential.
• Familiarity with discipline‑specific equipment and instructional technology.
• Commitment to student learning, retention, and assessment.
• For Creative Writing candidates, a terminal degree in Creative Writing and expertise in short stories, fiction, poetry, or a combination.
• For Emerging Media & Digital Arts candidates, current digital‑media experience and a master’s degree or equivalent professional experience.

• Non‑terminally prepared adjunct instructors: $650 per Equivalent Labor Unit (ELU).
• Terminally prepared adjunct instructors: $750 per ELU.
• Graduate‑level courses may receive a higher rate; a typical 4‑credit course is loaded at 4 ELU.
• Each term may involve less than 7.5 ELU (up to 15 ELU per term or 45 ELU per year for full‑time equivalence).
