Position: Head Coach, Cross Country; Ashland Middle School; Temporary

Head Coach, Cross Country (Temporary)

Work Site: Ashland Middle School
Reports to: Building Principal and Building Athletic Coordinator
Salary: $3,555 - $4,503

Job Summary

Provides leadership to the Cross Country program, coaching students who wish to excel in sport and offering them opportunities for advanced study and participation under expert guidance in an environment conducive to learning.

Responsibilities
  • Directs and supervises assistant coaches.
  • Holds organized and supervised practice sessions as required.
  • Teaches the skills, strategies, drills, and exercises necessary for participation and competition.
  • Develops seasonal goals, objectives, and daily practice plans.
  • Maintains lines of communication with students, staff, parents, officials, Athletic Coordinator, and booster clubs.
  • Maintains records of equipment, supplies, student eligibility, and emergency medical information.
  • Ensures adult supervision of athletes before and after practice, games, and bus trips and provides safety and security for all student athletes.
  • Prepares and submits a final season report to the building athletic coordinator, including inventory of supplies and equipment, contest records, individual athlete award records, and budget projection.
  • Complies with all athletic association regulations, league rules, and District policies.
  • Attends coaching clinics as requested.
  • Follows all specified standards, policies, and procedures of the building and Ashland School District.
  • Actively encourages student participation and promotes the ethical value of athletics.
  • Maintains a positive working relationship with the administration and community.
  • Provides proper care, maintenance, and security of facilities, equipment, and supplies throughout the season.
  • Promotes concepts of sportsmanship and develops positive health and safety standards for all athletes.
  • Completes the District's required online training annually by the due date.
Additional Duties

Facilitates a positive, inclusive environment and supports district-wide goals beyond listed responsibilities. Employees may provide services where necessary to ensure district success.

Supervisory Responsibilities

All school employees are responsible for supervising students and maintaining a safe environment.

Qualifications
  • Previous experience coaching cross country and strong leadership skills strongly desired.
  • Valid first aid/CPR card required.
Physical Demands

The employee will regularly communicate with others, move frequently between buildings, and use a variety of digital systems, software, and hardware. The position may require some travel outside the district. The employee may be exposed to high noise levels, outdoor weather conditions, and blood‑borne pathogens.

Work Environment

The work environment is usually low to moderate in noise level, with occasional exposure to extreme weather conditions. The employee must be able to work independently and as part of a team, and adapt to changing schedules.
