POSITION SUMMARY

Applicants apply to a pooled adjunct position pool. Applications are reviewed for teaching positions in Sociology & Anthropology, Gender, Sexuality & Women’s Studies, Native American Studies, Human Service, and Healthcare Administration. Positions are temporary, part‑time, limited‑duration (one term ≈ 13 weeks or multiple terms as needed). Applicants may withdraw at any time. The pool refreshes triennially.

RATE OF PAY

Expected rate: $650/ELU for non‑terminally prepared adjunct instructors and $750/ELU for terminally prepared adjunct instructors (term‑by‑term). Graduate‑level courses may be paid at a higher rate. A typical 4‑credit course is loaded at 4 ELU.
Full‑time equivalency:
Typically < 7.5 ELU, up to 15 ELU per term or 45 ELU per year for full‑time equivalence.

RESPONSIBILITIES (100%)

The primary responsibility is teaching, including preparation, direct instruction, assessment, and student contact outside class. Additional duties include academic advising, office hours, course planning, and potential service or professional development. Tasks may involve lab/workshop instruction requiring safety compliance and monitoring. Incumbents may be called for additional training, emergency roles, and flexible hours. Teaching may include first‑year seminars, online/hybrid courses, Medford and Ashland campus classes, and day, evening, or weekend courses.

Physical characteristics: standing, sitting, computer use, lecturing. Must be willing to travel and attend off‑site training. Must pass a pre‑employment background check.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Adjunct instructor (term‑by‑term):
    Master’s or terminal degree in the discipline or related field, or a Bachelor’s degree plus equivalency of Master’s degree in years of professional experience.
  • Demonstrated teaching potential.
  • Familiarity with discipline‑specific equipment.
  • Adjunct assistant professor:
    Terminal degree in the discipline or related field, or a Master’s degree in the discipline or related field and in the process of completing a terminal degree.
  • Demonstrated teaching potential.
  • Familiarity with discipline‑specific equipment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Adjunct instructor:
    Master’s degree in the discipline or related field and demonstrated excellence in teaching and active participation in the institution.
  • Commitment to student learning, retention, support, and assessment.
  • Adjunct assistant professor:
    Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, a record of scholarship, and active participation at the institution and in the profession.
  • Work experience equal to one academic year of full‑time teaching or part‑time teaching as a graduate student.
  • Professional experience in the field related to the assignment, particularly with advanced students.
