Position Summary
Pool of adjunct appointments at Southern Oregon University. Applicants are not applying for a specific position; they are being considered for adjunct roles that may become available during the posted triennium. Adjunct appointments are part‑time, temporary, and limited‑duration teaching positions typically one term (13 weeks) or multiple terms as needed. Your application will remain on file and you will be contacted if a suitable opening that matches your educational background and experience arises.

- Teach undergraduate courses in Computer Science and Mathematics.
- Pre‑provide one or more courses in CS (programming for non‑majors, introductory web development, first course in programming for majors; occasionally upper‑division electives such as AI, Big Data, Cybersecurity).
- Pre‑provide one or more courses in Mathematics (developmental mathematics, mathematics education, statistics, precalculus).
- Prepare, deliver, and assess course content; maintain student contact via office hours, email, or appointments.
- Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning and program development.
- Participate in academic advising and student support activities.
- Meet additional teaching commitments such as first‑year seminars, online/hybrid courses, or off‑site training as required.
- Perform professional development and service as directed by the department.
- Comply with mandatory background check and institutional policies, including mandated‑reporter responsibilities.
- Instructional level:
Adjunct Instructor (term‑by‑term). - Requirement:
Master’s or terminal degree in the discipline taught or a related field; OR a Bachelor’s degree in the discipline taught (or related) plus equivalency of a Master’s degree in years of professional experience. - Demonstrated teaching potential.
- Familiarity with appropriate equipment and instructional technology for the discipline.
- Master’s degree in the discipline taught or related field.
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching.
- Active participation in institutional life, student learning, retention, and assessment.
- For Adjunct Assistant Professor: A terminal degree or a Master’s degree while completing a terminal degree.
- Work experience equivalent to one academic year of full‑time college teaching, or one academic year of combined part‑time graduate teaching.
- Professional experience in the field related to the teaching assignment, especially for upper‑division courses.
- Record of scholarship and contribution to disciplinary discourse.
Base pay: $650 per teaching load unit (ELU) for non‑terminally prepared adjunct instructors (term‑by‑term) and $750 per ELU for terminally prepared adjunct instructors. Graduate‑level courses may command higher rates. A standard 4‑credit course is loaded at 4 ELU.

Incumbents are exempt under FLSA and are not subject to overtime. Candidates are required to successfully complete a criminal background check and comply with mandatory reporting laws in Oregon. The role may require occasional travel and off‑site professional development. The position is not benefits‑eligible; eligibility decisions will be based on specific employment conditions.
