Instructor of Physics (One-Year)
Job Description
The College of Natural and Social Sciences at Southern Oregon University (SOU) is seeking candidates for a full-time, nine month, professional-track, Instructor of Physics. This is a one-year hire with a start date of 9/16/26. Priority applicant deadline is 8/9/26.
Teaching responsibilities will include general physics lectures and labs. In addition, teaching assignments may include mathematics and/or introductory coursework in physics and/or astronomy for general education.
Initial appointment at the rank of Instructor requires a Master s degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field and demonstrated teaching potential.
Other responsibilities include participation in departmental meetings, student support services, mentoring, and participation in departmental curriculum discussions. Teaching may include online courses.
Minimum Qualifications
- Initial appointment at the rank of Instructor requires a Master s degree in Physics, Engineering, or related field.
- Candidates must have exceptional written and verbal skills as well as a desire to advise and mentor students outside of the classroom. The candidate should have experience incorporating subject matter content into undergraduate level instruction curricula.
- Candidates should demonstrate potential for excellence in teaching and active participation in the life of the institution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Terminal degree, in Physics, Engineering, or related field
- Traditional and online teaching experience in a college or university setting in one or more areas listed above
