Position: School of Nursing Undergraduate Faculty Instructor (Per Diem)

Department Overview

OHSU School of Nursing in Ashland located on Southern Oregon University campus in the foothills of the Siskiyou Mountains. Ashland is 286 miles from Portland. This campus offers three programs: two to complete the Bachelor of Science with a Major in Nursing degree and a third to complete an Accelerated Bachelor to Master’s program (Family Nurse Practitioner).

OHSU has three missions: healing, teaching, and discovery. In the School of Nursing, these focus to optimize health, prepare nurse leaders, and transform health care. Infusing these is a fourth: become a trauma‑informed and truly anti‑racist institution. Appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach, and public service.

Faculty ranks are as follows:

  • Lecturer (BSN or equivalent): $40.01 - $48.61 an hour
  • Instructor (MSN or equivalent): $45.20 - $56.46 an hour
  • Assistant Professor (MSN/DNP or equivalent): $48.19 - $67.45 an hour
Function/Duties of Position

Clinical Activities (not related to teaching or research):

  • Plan and supervise student lab and/or clinical experiences or practice based on teaching assignments.

Scholarly Activities (research/writing, abstracts, grant‑supported work, presentations, etc.):

  • Participate in scholarly activities based on faculty rank. At the Assistant Professor rank or higher, faculty in the practice mission demonstrate competence in an area of clinical expertise and engage in inquiry and scholarship that contributes to the practice of clinical practice. At the Assistant Professor rank or higher, faculty in the research mission advance a program of research, prepare grants and seek funding, and engage with other missions to foster inquiry within the SON.

Education Activities (include types of teaching and types of students taught):

  • Provide effective didactic instruction based on teaching assignments using appropriate instructional technologies to ensure that course outcomes are met.
  • Participate collaboratively in the development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum.
  • Mentor and advise students.
  • Faculty in the doctoral program supervise students in dissertation and/or clinical inquiry projects.

Service Activities

  • Activities could include faculty meetings, committee membership, professional activities, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Program or Academic Director.
  • Participate in faculty governance; additional engagement based on rank.

Administrative Activities

  • As negotiated.

Other Activities

  • Appointee shall provide services as assigned by supervisor in furtherance of university’s missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach, and public service.
Required Qualifications

Education (Degree dependent on academic program type and rank of position):

  • Lecturer: BSN or equivalent
  • Instructor: MSN or equivalent
  • Assistant Professor:
    Ph.D./DNP or equivalent

Registrations, Certifications, and/or Licenses (Current licensure & certifications could be required depending on position and academic program):

  • Oregon RN license
  • BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
Preferred Qualifications

Experience (Experience dependent on academic program type and rank of position):

  • 2 years of clinical practice experience preferred.
  • Doctorate preferred. A doctorate is required for ranks of Assistant Professor or higher.
  • Teaching experience at the baccalaureate level or higher preferred.
