JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for supporting students in finding pathways to post high school education through college and career counseling. In addition, this position coordinates the Ashland High School ASPIRE Program and facilitates other activities and curriculum which promotes attending college as a school culture, and also provides administrative support to the counseling office and administration. Performs duties with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Follows and maintains knowledge of applicable District policy(ies) and procedures.
  • Assists students, individually or in groups, with tasks specific to attending college.
  • Recruits, screens trains and supervises volunteer mentors for the ASPIRE program.
  • Trains ASPIRE mentors to work one-on-one with students, helping them to plan, prepare and achieve their postsecondary education goals, which may be college or a career-technical school.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of ASPIRE mentors and maintains volunteer application paperwork and background checks.
  • Coordinates and facilitates monthly training for volunteers.
  • Coordinates and organizes volunteer recognition activities.
  • Recruits students to participate in the ASPIRE program through outreach in classrooms, school presentations and announcements.
  • Determines needs of student applicants and matches them with appropriate mentors and resources.
  • Works with students who need support in exploring and researching post-high school educational options, completing applications for colleges, vocational programs, financial aid and scholarships.
  • Provides appropriate support, guidance and resources consistent with each student's targeted post high school goals.
  • Provides follow up support to students after graduation.
  • Collects data as necessary to document student progress toward attaining post high school educational goals.
  • Maintains records on each student and tracks student progress.
  • Participates in team meetings as needed.
  • Gathers and organizes information that is useful for post high school education planning.
  • When appropriate, attends transition planning meetings with eligible students.
  • Works with teachers and counselors to provide college and career curriculum for appropriate classes, including presenting information in classrooms.
  • Participates in training seminars, as needed, regarding program procedures and practices.
  • Coordinates and facilitates college, financial aid and scholarship information nights for all high school parents and students, and assists counselors when needed with counseling office coordinated 1nformat1on nights and school presentations for students.
  • Assists administration with dual credit pathway programs, meeting with students and parents to provide information on early college credit options to help students determine appropriate pathways.
  • Provides direct support to students and families regarding the financial aid process including assistance in FAFSA completion. Contacts financial aid offices as needed to assist students and families.
  • Coordinates events for students promoting application to post-secondary education, as well as recognition of students.
  • Serves as a liaison for students and parents/guardians for outside support with Job Corps, Job Council, TRiO programs, RCC, SOU and other community colleges, universities and vocational programs on an as needed basis.
  • Communicates all program information in multiple venues including in handbooks, flyers, newsletters, and other means of communication.
  • Compiles and updates AHS College Handbook annually.
  • Assists the scholarship coordinator with disseminating scholarship information, and communicating with and facilitating interviews for scholarship organizations.
  • Completes accurate reports as required, including reporting key performance measures required by OSAC and participation in ASPIRE program evaluations and surveys.
  • Coordinates end of year senior survey, including completing documentation of senior final transcript requests, and compiling statistics of each years' seniors' post high school education plans.
