The Ashland Police Department is seeking qualified individuals to fill the part-time (24 hours per week), civilian position of Police Support Specialist. Primary duties will include providing excellent service by phone, digital communication and in-person to a wide variety of stakeholders. The selected candidate will be someone who has successfully held similar positions, while showing fairness as well as patience, humility, and empathy while dealing with internal and external customers.
The qualified candidate will have experience in a records environment and reviewing field generated reports, data entry, maintaining files of a variety of records, reports, documents, and correspondence. The exceptional candidate will have experience in processing, maintaining and reviewing law enforcement records to include, CJIS, I , VCIN, Library of Virginia and FOIA; will have experience in a dynamic workplace that is transitioning to a paperless environment and can embrace using new technology to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the agency.
Minimum qualifications include graduation from high school, six months to one year experience in clerical or communications work; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Applicants must be at least 18 years old. A background check, driving record check, and pre-employment drug screening is required.
This is a part-time position with an anticipated pay-rate of $25.00/hour. General working hours are weekdays, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional nights and weekends as required. This position does not include insurance or other benefits but does include reduced Paid Time Off.
