Hillis-Carnes Engineering Associates (HCEA) is a top‑tier, multi‑disciplined engineering firm with 30 years of success. We are hiring a Construction Materials Testing Technician in Ashland, VA to handle field observations, sample testing, logging, and communication with project managers.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct field observations at jobsites in the region.
  • Sample and test construction materials such as soil, aggregates, concrete, grout, masonry, asphalt, and structural steel.
  • Prepare accurate daily logs of inspections and test results.
  • Communicate daily with the project manager or operations manager regarding project progress.
Requirements
  • Reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to lift or move 60–80 pounds.
  • Capability to work outdoors in all climates and over varied terrain.
  • Strong attention to detail, quality adherence, and safety compliance.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency or willingness to use a company tablet and basic MS Office.
  • Basic math and measurement skills.
  • Ability to learn to read and interpret plans, specifications, safety rules, and procedure manuals with training.
  • Preferred: experience and certifications such as ACI, NICET, WACEL.
