The Sr. Estimator is a full-time, on-site role located in Ashland, VA, responsible for leading the preparation of detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing project plans and specifications, performing quantity takeoffs, soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier bids, and developing comprehensive budgets and proposals. The Sr. Estimator collaborates with project managers, engineers, and leadership to refine scopes, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure estimates align with project goals and client expectations.
This role also involves maintaining historical cost data, updating pricing databases, and supporting preconstruction planning and scheduling. Regular communication with clients and partners is expected to clarify requirements, present estimates, and contribute to competitive bids and negotiated projects.
- Strong estimating and preconstruction skills, including quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and bid preparation for commercial projects.
- Proficiency with construction estimating software, spreadsheets, and digital tools used for takeoffs, budgeting, and proposal development.
- Solid understanding of commercial construction methods, materials, building codes, and industry standards.
- Ability to interpret architectural, structural, civil, and MEP drawings and specifications accurately.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with owners, design teams, subcontractors, and internal project staff.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management abilities, with attention to detail and deadlines.
- Experience as an estimator or senior estimator in commercial construction; preconstruction or project management experience is beneficial.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
