Description

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include supporting and assisting the educational leadership and the assigned principal with staff evaluations, staff development, promoting the safety and security of the students, staff and facility, supervising transportation and helping to coordinate the special education program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES

- Assist the principal in the coordination and administration of pupil and personnel services
- Assist the principal to implement and maintain a code of acceptable student behavior
- Participate in the recruitment, placement, observation, evaluation, and training of staff
- Participate in special education meetings
- Manage the arrival and departure of school bus transportation
- May establish and manage building maintenance schedules
- Supervise the use of buildings and grounds
- Secure daily substitutes for teachers and instructional aides
- Attend school improvement meetings
- Complete required reports
- Attend and participate in team leader meetings
- Coordinate school field trips
- Respond to school alarm calls, monitor school bus radio
- Participate in PTA events and meet with parents and community groups
- Coordinate and present awards and other student recognition programs
- Maintain inventory, manage and prepare records for destruction, and coordinate yearly audit
- Manage, distribute, stamp, number, and take inventory of textbooks
- Investigate and conference with individuals regarding classroom discipline issues
- Investigate and conference with individuals regarding school issues
- Read, analyze, and respond to various correspondences
- Supervise students at arrival, dismissal, and cafeteria times
- Coordinate Crisis Management Team
- Coordinate, prepare, plan, schedule standardized testing, and analyze test results
- Perform related work as required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Significant knowledge with federal and state laws governing the education of all students and students with disabilities. Exceptional verbal, written, and technical communication skills. Familiarity and proficiency using and managing Microsoft office products (i.e., word, excel, outlook, email, database, etc.). Exceptional organizational skills and time management skills. Excellent diplomacy skills in managing difficult people and difficult situations. Significant analytical and interpretive skills with regard to educational law governing student with disabilities.
Excellent knowledge of the processes related to effective teaching and learning. Strong supervisory and decision-making skills. Ability to manage crises situations effectively.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires Master's degree and eligibility for VDOE endorsement in Adm & Supervision; at least three years of full-time experience as an elementary teacher and evidence of leadership experiences (administrator or supervisor preferred);
Postgraduate Professional Certificate.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Requires physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
Position may include climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Work is typically performed in a school setting, including classrooms, cafeteria, and recreational areas. May require long periods of walking, sitting or standing. Requires exposure to outdoor environment, which may include inclement weather, to coordinate school bus scheduling and facility management. Daily liaison activity throughout the school building and grounds.
Daily contact with students, teachers, school and county administration, parents, and the community is required. Must be able to lift up to 20 lbs. Consistent and regular attendance is essential in this position.
