General Responsibilities
Provide leadership to administrators and staff regarding the District-wide literacy program; assist teachers and parents in the understanding of evidence-based literacy instruction (EBLI) and implementation of high-quality instructional materials; analyze various assessments to determine an intentional instructional match for students in need of intervention; plan, implement, and progress monitor student literacy interventions and maintain student learning plans for striving readers.
Essential Duties- Work collaboratively with the division level Language Arts Curriculum Specialist, Coordinator, literacy coaches, and other reading specialists
- Provide leadership and service in the diagnosis of reading and literacy problems and development of prescriptive remediation
- Maintain inventory of specialized materials for testing and remediation
- Prepare daily instruction and activities using the division's curriculum and resources, and show evidence of preparation upon request of the supervisors
- Assist teachers and parents in understanding the nature of students' reading abilities and plan for intervention
- Coordinate an effective reading program with pk-5 classroom teachers and administrators
- Maintain student records for specific reading skills and achievement
- Develop student reading plans based on diagnostic data for intervention students
- Provide adequate reading materials for intervention students
- Coordinate professional learning for classroom teachers and parents
- Provide student reports of intervention to classroom teachers and parents
- Provide diagnostic, placement, and consultation services to all classroom teachers regarding intervention and general education students
- Attend monthly division-level reading meetings, and share information with school administration and faculty
- Attend and participate in professional learning opportunities, faculty and department meetings
- Establish friendly and cooperative relationships between the home and the school
- Establish and maintain cooperative professional relations with others
- Demonstrates commitment to improving professional competence
- Respect the home responsibility of parents for their children
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, division policy, and administrative regulations
- Perform related work as required
Skills and Abilities
Required: Must have demonstrated the leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with students with literacy difficulties, teachers, and parents. Requires strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to work collaboratively with teachers and school administrators.
Preferred: Demonstrated excellence as a classroom teacher and/or reading specialist at the elementary level. Expertise in working with teachers to improve their literacy practices.
Education and Experience LicensureRequired: Postgraduate Professional License with endorsement as a reading specialist
EducationRequired: Master's degree.
ExperienceRequired: At least three years of recent, successful experience as a classroom teacher, as a reading specialist, or in an environment that emphasizes reading.
Candidates that do not meet the minimum qualifications at this time may be considered for this role and, if selected, will be required to attain them within a specified amount of time.
A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Work Schedule: 10M – 217 Days – 7.25 Hrs.
