Randolph-Macon College invites applications for a tenure-track position of Assistant Professor inthe Department of English specializing in Contemporary Literature/21st-Century Global Anglophone Literature tobegin Fall 2027.

The English department gives students an understanding of human nature, society, and history, while at the same time honing their powers of expression. The major thus caters to a wide variety of students, from those with a lifelong love of language and reading,to those who write poetry and fiction, to those eager to understand how language may be used to entertain, move, or persuade. English majors find community in the Washington Literary Society,contribute to our literary journal The Stylus, and participate in unique internship opportunities.
An RMC English degree provides students with critical thinking and communication skills that have repeatedly shown themselves valuable in an arrayof professions as various as law, advertising, teaching, and politics.
Randolph-Macon College faculty teach, advise, conduct research and engage in scholarship, andserve the college and department. Primary teaching responsibilities will include introductory-level English courses, contributions tothe first-year writing program, and seminars in the applicant’sarea of expertise.
Minimum Qualifications- Ph.D. in English (or a related field); we will consider candidates who will complete their degree by August 1, 2027;
- Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching;
- Evidence of a commitment to undergraduate teaching and student engagement;
- Experience working with students and a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that support all learners in reaching their maximum potential;
- Evidence of scholarly activity.
- A clear research agenda with the potential to produce scholarly publications in an area of contemporary literature/21st-c. global anglophone literature;
- The ability to contribute additional courses that add to departmental offerings in a secondary specialization such as rhetoric and composition, gender and sexuality studies,postcolonial literature, media studies, environmental humanities,or digital humanities.
