Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs

Randolph-Macon College (RMC) invites applications for its next Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA), who will serve as the chief academic officer and a trusted partner to the President at a time of both institutional renewal and momentum for the institution. Together with President Hill and the campus community, the Provost will advance Randolph-Macon College's historic mission of providing an exceptional liberal arts education grounded in intellectual curiosity, personal growth, ethical leadership, and lifelong learning.

The next Provost of Randolph-Macon College will have the opportunity to help shape a vision of what it means for RMC to successfully develop the minds and characters of its students, while positioning Randolph-Macon College for continued excellence in the years ahead.

Randolph-Macon College has expanded its academic offerings in recent years while maintaining the breadth and flexibility of its liberal arts curriculum and has more than 1,800 undergraduate students pursuing their academic paths in more than 55 areas of study. Randolph-Macon College has strong academic programs in a variety of fields, with a core foundation in the liberal arts.

The Provost reports directly to the President and leads the institution in the President’s absence, as the first among the vice presidents. This position is responsible for all administrative governance of the faculty, curriculum, academic and co-curricular programs and departments. The Provost is directly involved with guiding the development of the faculty, promoting scholarly achievement, maintaining and strengthening academic resources, and enriching the student experience across the College.

The Provost also oversees academic budgeting, international programs, the McGraw-Page Library, the Higgins Academic Center, EDGE Career Development, the Registrar, and Institutional Research and Effectiveness.

Key priorities for Randolph-Macon College’s next Provost include managing institutional growth and scaling capacity; strengthening faculty excellence, development, and support; leading through change while maintaining trust and stability; exhibiting visible leadership; strengthening shared governance and cross-campus collaboration; and positioning Randolph-Macon College for the future.

The ideal candidate will possess a terminal degree, have already achieved the rank of full professor with tenure, and must also demonstrate considerable experience in academic administration. A true champion of the liberal arts, the Provost will have the capacity to engage others in developing a clear academic vision.

Compensation and Benefits
Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is $275,000 to $325,000 with a generous benefits package. Note that the final salary will reflect internal equity and the selected candidate’s individual experiences and qualifications.
